Dr. James Dobson Explains How Christians Must Fight the Culture War

America is in a fight for its identify. Progressives are trying to obliterate the long-held traditional values this country was founded upon. This sad reality was put on display during the contentious process to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. In an interview with David Brody, CBN News Chief Political Analyst, on “Faith Nation,” Dr. James Dobson urged Christians to continue fighting for what they believe in. However, he encouraged them to do so in a godly way.

During the sit-down, Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and Family Talk, praised President Donald J. Trump for honoring the promises he made to evangelicals. He especially commended the President for his dedication to protecting the sanctity of human life.

Besides talking about the President, Dobson highlighted the divisiveness that is consuming much of the country. He remarked, “We can’t abandon what we believe and what Jesus said about loving your enemies.” To reiterate his point, the author of dozens of books including “The New Dare to Discipline,” “Bringing up Boys,” and “Bringing up Girls,” focused on a period in American history when the country was the most divided, the Civil War.

Dobson stated that some people who were on the winning side in the conflict wished to hang all of their adversaries and destroy the South. But, at this pivotal point in American history, President Abraham Lincoln objected. Dobson mentioned Lincoln’s poignant words after the Civil War ended: “With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds North and South, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace.”

Dobson went on to add, “May we be careful with the way we speak and think and talk against those who are opposed to everything we believe. You have to maintain a spirit of charity and love, and God will bless us if we do.”

The founder of Focus on the Family and Family Talk views voting as an important weapon in Christians’ fight to protect what they believe in. In his October monthly newsletter, Dobson warned believers of the severe consequences that will occur if they fail to vote in the November mid-term elections. He said, “Socialism would replace freedom and free enterprise. God help us if you and I fail to fulfill our moral responsibility.”

The renowned author feels the upcoming election is perhaps more significant than any other in the history of the country. If Christians don’t head to the polls in November, Dobson remarked, “Everything is on the line, and a wholly new interpretation of the Constitution looms before us. Socialism would replace freedom and free enterprise.”

In his monthly newsletter, Dobson went on to warn, “Powerful social movements and passions are ‘blowing in the wind,’ and most of them have dangerous implications for the institution of the family, religious liberty, our children and unborn babies, and the country at large.” Arguing that the election will shape the country’s direction for many years, the evangelical stated that “Christians must go to the polls next month and let their voices be heard!”

Pleading with Christians, the renowned author said, “What will you do about it? Will you sit out this election? God help us if you and I fail to fulfill our moral responsibility.” Dobson also remarked, “Destiny rides before us again. As Barack Obama said after winning a second presidential term, ‘Elections have consequences.’ Indeed, they do. We, the voters, have it within our power to protect our Constitution, preserve our democratic system of government, and secure the blessings of liberty for us and our posterity.”
