VP Mike Pence Forced to Defend His Wife’s Career Choice

The left-wing media, which President Donald Trump not so affectionately calls “Fake News,” seems incapable of covering a story involving a Trump supporter or a Christian with any manner of unbiased professionalism. Instead, they crucify subjects at a moment’s notice with only mere speculation if anything on which to base their “story.”

Second Lady Karen Pence, Vice President’s Mike Pence’s wife, was one of the secular left’s latest targets in a series of media hit pieces last week.

Judging by the harsh criticism the Second Lady endured, one might assume that Mrs. Pence must have committed some heinous act. In actuality, all she did was return to her teaching job at a private school called Immanuel Christian school in Springfield, Virginia. This Christian school mandates its students abide by Christian principles. That would mean of course that the school promotes and supports traditional marriage and does not embrace transgenderism.

Keep in mind, Mrs. Pence made no statement against the LGBT community herself or in any way condemned this group of people. She only showed up for a job to which she felt called. For this, she and her husband were subjected to ruthless attacks by CNN, the Washington Post and others.

According to various media outlets, the problem many in the left have with the school is their “parental agreement” which prohibits Immanuel students along with their families from engaging in the following certain behaviors.

“This includes, but is not limited to contumacious behavior, divisive conduct, and participating in, supporting, or condoning sexual immorality, homosexual activity or bisexual activity, promoting such practices, or being unable to support the moral principles of the school,” the school’s code reads.

During a recent interview with the “Washington Watch,” Vice President Pence said he and his wife are, “used to the criticism.” However, he did add that, “the attacks on Christian education by the mainstream media have got to stop.”

“If we cherish the freedom of religion in this country, this administration stands foursquare for the freedom of religion of people of all faiths,” the vice president said. “And to see the mainstream media criticize my wife because she’s choosing to return to the classroom of an elementary Christian school is wrong. Again, the attacks on Christian education must end.”

National Review contributor and Christian writer David French agreed.

“Immanuel is a church ministry, applying the church’s theology,” French wrote. “No one is forced to attend the church. No one is forced to attend the school. It’s a voluntary association that is protected by the First Amendment and rooted in the faith that guides the lives of tens of millions of Americans.”

The harsh way in which Mrs. Pence was covered by the mainstream media is a scary reality for Christians all across the nation. If a person in the spotlight can be criticized simply for living out their faith in a workplace environment in which it’s protected, what is to stop the media from deciding that public figures should not be allowed to teach Sunday school at their local church? Where does it stop?

For believers, the fact that persecution exists shouldn’t be surprising. After all, as it says in Matthew 5:10, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” and in 2 Timothy 3:12, “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”
