A Story of Healing: Prayer Vigil Held for Minister Carol Waisanen

Carol Waisanen is a pastor at Solid Rock Restoration Church in Riverside, California. She and her husband Don are the pastors of the church, sharing the duties and working together to bring the word of God to their flock.

On May 7, 2017, Carol began to feel ill after giving a talk on the topic, “Facing Your Giants” at her church.
In her talk, Carol quoted from Romans 18, “When everything looks impossible – dead – you can still say you believe in the impossible?”

The evening on May 7, Carol started to feel sick to her stomach. She was concerned that she had food poisoning according to her husband Don, and she became worse of the next five days.

After feeling worse over the week, her husband Don brought Carol to the Kaiser Hospital emergency room in Fontana on May 12. Doctors ran a wide range of tests, and they learned that Carol was suffering from uterine cancer.

The doctors discovered that Carol had a tumor that was causing a blockage in her abdomen. The tumor was growing fast and causing her symptoms to occur. Carol’s health continued to get worse, and by May 19th she was moved to the Intensive Care Unit.

Her husband Don stated, “All of her vital signs were disintegrating fast”. The tumor continued to grow, and was causing problems with the rest of her organs. Carol was struggling to breath, and she was suffering from pneumonia. Carol also had infections that were life threatening, and dangerous blood clots in her legs. She became gravely ill and fell into a coma as her vital organs were no longer working effectively.

Don was told that Carol had a minimal chance at surviving the next 24 hours, and members of their church began to pray. Although Don was told it was time to start preparing for a funeral, the members of the church started a prayer vigil instead in the waiting room of the hospital.

As Carol’s health continued to decline, she was brought from the Intensive Care Unit to hospice. Her husband reported that Carol was in terrible pain and that she had been clear that no artificial means were to be used to keep her alive.

Don asked that Carol keep receiving water and nutrition, believing firmly that God could heal his wife from the grave illness she was suffering from.

On the night of May 27, 2017, a prayer vigil was organized for Carol. The word of Carol’s prayer needs spread throughout the world through social media and email.

That same night, Carol woke up from her coma. She started to speak.

Within a short time of the huge prayer vigil held for Carol, her breathing stabilized and her pneumonia vanished. Her vital organs were no longer shutting down, but instead working correctly.

Her husband Don exclaimed, “Life returned to our Carol!” Doctors were amazed at what happened, and could not give any explanation for the return of Carol’s health. Instead of planning her funeral, Don began getting ready for Carol to come back home May 31st.

Both Carol and her husband have a deep faith in God. Don stated, “we believed God could intervene.” Although it seemed clear that the end of Carol’s life was close, she returned to the world to continue the work God has set for her.

Her husband Don is grateful for the chance for Carol to heal while at home. While he understands that her health is still precarious, he continues to believe in God, and prays for Carol to heal completely and to return to her previous state of health.

In her message to the congregation during her talk, “Facing Your Giants,” Carol stated, “When we face a new trial, it is often a sign we are entering into a new dimension. God uses the trial as a preparation for a new thing to come.”

Both Carol and Don continue to pray for Carol’s healing, despite the fragility of her health. Both understand that miracles can happen, as witnessed already by Carol’s return from the brink of death through prayer.
