It’s no secret that President Trump wants to put America First. In his State of the Union address, he spent the first hour outlining his plans for the United States without talking about any foreign policy.
But, there was one telling phrase the president that shaped the rest of his speech all Christians should be aware of:
“In God We Trust”
During the State of the Union address, President Trump looked up and stated, “In God We Trust”. The words were etched in the arch above his head, and House Speaker Paul Ryan was quick to point out the words by looking up.
President Donald Trump is a Christian, specifically a Christian of the Presbyterian faith. Throughout his campaign and his first year as president, he has never shied away from showing his faith and his belief that God is guiding his actions.
“In America, we know that faith and family, not government and bureaucracy, are the center of the American life. The motto is ‘in God we trust,’ ” the president said.
Some Republicans in the audience were more than pleased with President Trump’s commitment to God and America First in his speech. Congressman Jody Hice, a Republican from Georgia and a previous pastor stated:
“It’s very moving for me and refreshing to have a commander in chief speak with such boldness as to the foundation of our faith,” Rep. Hice said.
As a man of faith, President Trump has been trying to lead a country that is deeply divided. With partisan bickering making it difficult to get anything done in congress, Trump relies on his faith to keep pushing forward. He is looking at mid-term elections and encouraging the American public to get out and vote for Republicans running for office to shore up his support within Congress and make it easier to follow through with his agenda.
While Democrats are upset with any mention of religion within the government, the United States was founded with the belief of “In God we Trust”. While people of all faiths are welcome, it is a belief in God that must unite us at this time. Naturally, it’s not surprising that the speech has been well received by people of faith.
When we focus on God and put our faith in family, our country can do anything. President Trump is going to continue to work on his agenda, putting his faith and country before anything else.
In his first year, those that have faith in God are pleased with what is going on with the Trump presidency. Families matter, kindness matters, and trusting that God is watching over all of us is nothing to be ashamed of.
If everyone could remember the motto: “In God we Trust”, the country would be more unified and ready to move forward for the common good. It’s time that everyone in the United States come together and put our faith in God where it belongs. Without faith, we are moving about this world blind.
