Vice President Mike Pence isn’t exactly shy about expressing his faith. The Evangelical Christian maintains strong ties to his religion, which he says has helped shape him as a politician.
With such an unapologetic approach, Pence is a calm force in the sometimes chaotic world of politics. The Vice President falls back on his faith when making important decisions.
During a recent interview with CBN News, Vice President Pence spoke about the role of faith in the current administration. Pence told reporter David Brody that both he and President Trump are “believers” that are grateful and humbled by the support that they get from evangelical Christians. Pence went on to say that Trump has a heart of gratitude for Christians in the United States, and believes that Trump understands how important religion is to the American people. He also says that the kindest words that he and the president hear are words spoken from people who say they are “praying” for the current administration.
Pence has gone out of his way to make sure that Christians have a voice inside the White House. Vice President Pence says that, in meeting with religious leaders in the Oval Office, they usually pause for a moment of prayer. President Trump embraces prayer during these times as well. According to the VP, the American public can rest assured that they have a strong leader who respects and appreciates the role that faith and religion plays in their communities and everyday lives.
Vice President Pence admits that there have been many challenges that have stretched he and President Trump’s faith over the past year. The investigation into collusion between the Trump administration and Russia was one of those times that has tested the Vice President’s faith. Another challenge in the current administration has been the impact of hurricane season in Texas, Florida, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Pence says that while these problems indeed tested everyone at the White House, he is proud of the first responders and how they came alongside families during tragic times to help them pick up the pieces and rebuild. Pence says that President Trump has made it clear that the current administration is with the people and the communities that are suffering. Pence believes that this helps bring optimism and hope to the American people.
Pence says that, In spite of the challenges, his high point so far has been to “serve as the Vice President” to President Trump — a president that has focused so much on the security and safety of the United States and its people. Pence points out that President Trump signed the most significant increase in military spending in well over ten years. The amount of military spending is the highest invested in this country’s national defense since the Reagan administration. To the Vice President, this represents a big investment in the safety and security of the United States. This commitment to safety allows the armed forces to make extraordinary progress in keeping the US safe from Islamic and other forms of terrorism.
Vice President Pence’s view is that the president’s strong leadership and swift decision-making in using military power to respond to the use of chemical weapons in Syria sends a message to the rest of the world that “America is back.” Pence believes that Trump’s actions have restored the credibility of the United States’ leadership, and that he and other leaders are grateful to see a president that embraces America’s role as the leader of the free world and defeater of terrorism.
The Vice President believes that things will get even better during 2018. He pointed out that the economy is humming along, and that tax changes will help to the people of the United States prosper even more. The vice president is confident that the administration will do great work during the next year, which is an outlook likely based on his strong faith and commitment to God.
